What Is the Playoff Odds Simulator?

The Playoff Odds Simulator uses Monte Carlo simulation to calculate each team's chances of making the fantasy playoffs. By running thousands of random simulations of the remaining weeks, it provides statistically robust probabilities.

This tool is essential for fantasy managers approaching the playoff push (Weeks 8-14). Knowing your playoff odds helps you make smarter trade decisions, waiver claims, and lineup choices.

  • Playoff Odds: Percentage chance each team makes the playoffs
  • Most Likely Scenario: The most probable outcome for your league
  • Tiebreaker Analysis: Factors in total points or head-to-head
  • Point-Based Weighting: High-scoring teams have higher win probabilities

๐Ÿ“Š How It Works

The simulator runs 10,000+ random simulations of the remaining season. Each simulation uses point-based weighting to determine matchup winners, then determines playoff qualifiers based on your league settings.

๐Ÿ“Š Worked Example

Scenario: 4-Player League, 3 Weeks Left

Team A:

  • Record: 7-3
  • Points For: 1200
  • Remaining: Team B, Team C, Team D

Team B:

  • Record: 6-4
  • Points For: 1150
  • Remaining: Team A, Team D, Team C

Team C:

  • Record: 5-5
  • Points For: 1080
  • Remaining: Team D, Team A, Team B

Team D:

  • Record: 4-6
  • Points For: 1020
  • Remaining: Team C, Team B, Team A

Simulation Result: Team A has a 78% playoff chance, Team B has 62%, Team C has 45%, Team D has 15%.

Interpretation: Team A is nearly locked in. Team B is likely but needs to secure wins. Team C needs help. Team D is a long shot.

How the Simulation Works

๐Ÿ“ Methodology

  • Monte Carlo Simulation: 10,000 iterations of remaining weeks
  • Point-Based Weighting: Win probability = PF รท (PF + PA) for each matchup
  • Standings Update: Wins/losses updated after each simulated week
  • Tiebreaker Handling: Uses total points for or head-to-head per your setting
  • Processed Flag: Ensures each matchup is only simulated once per week
