What Is the Strength of Schedule Translator?
The Strength of Schedule Translator adjusts a player's projected fantasy points based on the quality of their opponent's defense. Not all matchups are created equal — facing the league's best defense (rank #1) is significantly harder than facing the worst (rank #32). This tool gives you a data-driven way to quantify that difference.
Whether you're setting your weekly lineup, evaluating a trade, or deciding between two similar players, understanding schedule strength is critical. A running back facing the league's worst rush defense could see a 15-20% boost in projected output, while a quarterback against a top-5 pass defense might see a similar reduction.
This tool uses a proprietary adjustment curve that applies a multiplier to a player's base PPG based on opponent defensive ranking and position-specific factors:
- Top 8 defenses (Ranks 1-8): Hard matchup (0.85× – 0.95× multiplier)
- Middle 16 defenses (Ranks 9-24): Neutral matchup (0.95× – 1.05× multiplier)
- Bottom 8 defenses (Ranks 25-32): Favorable matchup (1.05× – 1.15× multiplier)
The adjustment factor also accounts for position-specific sensitivity. Running backs tend to be most affected by defensive matchups, while quarterbacks and tight ends see slightly less variance due to their reliance on scheme and quarterback play.

How the Calculation Works
The translator applies a position-specific adjustment factor based on opponent defensive ranking. The core formula takes your projected points per game and applies a multiplier derived from the opponent's defensive strength relative to the league average.

Full range: Rank 1 gives ~0.85×, Rank 32 gives ~1.15× (depending on curve/position)

Calculation: 18.5 × 0.655 (clamped) = 12.1 adjusted PPG
This represents a -6.4 point reduction — a very tough matchup against a top-8 defense, further amplified by PPR volatility.
🎯 Position Weighting
- RB: 1.0 (most affected by defensive matchups)
- WR: 0.95 (moderately affected)
- TE: 0.90 (less affected)
- QB: 0.85 (least affected by opponent defense)
📈 PPR Volatility Adjustment
In PPR leagues, receptions add a volatility layer to scoring. The PPR setting adjusts the position weight slightly:
- Full PPR (1.0): +5% volatility multiplier — WRs and RBs with high target shares become more valuable
- Half PPR (0.5): +2.5% volatility multiplier
- Standard (0.0): No volatility adjustment
Note: This adjusts matchup sensitivity, not the raw PPG input. Your base PPG should already reflect your league's scoring settings.
